Onshore Construction
Consultant engaged by contractor to help obtain Louisiana DOT approval
for redesigned 1-3/4 mile precast concrete viaduct on I-310 between I-10 and
U.S. 61. Contractor's redesign cut the state's original 750 day schedule to
450 working days, leading to significant cost savings.
Structural engineering to convert a ten story steel industrial building
into a chicory roasting and grinding facility for a large coffee company.
Feasibility and modification study of an existing river dock load-out system
to handle very large loads.
Foundation design for automobile engine manufacturing facility.
Design of overhead crane runway support system to go inside an existing
industrial building.
Design falsework and layout geometry for the contractor for several
reverse-double curved highway bridges along the Natchez Trace Parkway (U.S.
Department of Interior).
Layout and design of highway and utility bridges for water crossings and
grade separation structures. Design of cofferdam for river bridge pier. Design
of excavation bracing for deep sewer interceptor line.
Analysis of telescope observatory structure for 200 MPH wind velocity.
Design reinforcing system for observatory.
Design of a reinforced concrete shell structure to protect aircraft from
artillery fire.
Design of a folded-plate reinforced concrete arena building with tension
and compression rings. Design of a reinforced concrete addition to a hospital.
Structural designs for a commercial retail store for Sears, Roebuck and
Company and a 3-story office building for an electric power company.
Offshore Construction
Bullwinkle Platform Fabrication Member of a small team of engineering
consultants engaged by Bullwinkle Constructors to provide concepts and details
for bidding and fabricating the mammoth BULLWINKLE platform: 1,350 foot water
depth, 400 foot plan dimension at mud-line and 50,000 ton load-out weight.
Denson Engineers, Inc. Partner and principal civil engineer
responsible for structural design of offshore quarters packages with helideck,
including lift calculations.
One significant achievement involved working with the contractor to develop
methods to shorten fabrication time for a 36 bed quarters package from 6 months
to 3 months. The completed project, including helideck, was delivered in 90
days from start of construction.
McDermott, Inc. Consulting structural engineer in the
engineering group designing offshore structures. Member of the engineering team
that designed the CERVEZA platform for 935 foot water depth. Directed and supervised
the work of five engineers on other offshore projects. Made a feasibility study for
a single piece, stiff-leg platform for 1,350 foot water depth and made a guyed tower
design study as part of a special projects group for deep water structures.
